Tamil Nadu
On another note in my
Fulbright Report I wrote about the piles of rubbish dumped into vacant spaces
including the ubiquitous plastic bag, bottles, nappies, garbage bags etc. The
sides of roads, vacant lots, ditches are a sea of plastic along with the water
edge at the ocean. On June 5th 2018, World Environment Day (India
hosted it in 2018) the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Edapaddi K Palaniswami announce
in the assembly that Tamil Nadu would ban throw away plastic from Jan 1st
2019.
A lot was reported in the newspapers
about it and that canvas bag manufacturers were busy. If Tamil Nadu can ban throw away plastic so
can Bennington, so can VT and so can the USA.
